Top security upgrades for rental properties

I’m a first-time landlord with a small rental unit and want to make sensible upgrades that keep the property secure without making tenants feel like they’re being watched. I’m not looking for anything invasive like cameras—just solid, practical improvements they’ll actually use and appreciate. I’ve been looking at local services in Melbourne for advice, and came across this one: . Has anyone worked with them, or have ideas on security changes that tenants thank you for rather than complain about?

For my rental, I focused on practical, tenant-friendly upgrades: a quality deadbolt on the main door, keyed window locks, and a peephole. I also added good lighting at the entrance and labelled all keys clearly in the handover pack. Including a simple “what to do if you’re locked out” sheet was surprisingly appreciated. Keeping it straightforward avoids the feeling of over-monitoring while still protecting the property.
